Sunday 18th October 2020. We were contacted at 1400 hours by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service with a report that a woman had fallen and injured her leg whilst walking on the Cleveland Way near to Kepwick Village. Owing to the location, Team members were deployed via two routes – one party in a Team Land Rover Ambulance from the Osmotherley end via Square Corner with others accessing the Cleveland Way via Kepwick village. Upon reaching the casualty, Team members provided her with pain relief and splinted her right leg.
A short while later an ambulance arrived and, thanks to the relatively good condition of the track in that area, it was driven along the Cleveland Way to the scene. The casualty was then assisted into the ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment. We wish her well with her recovery. Eleven Team members were directly involved in the incident plus one more co-ordinating our response remotely, with others en route when cancelled. The incident last approximately 1.5 hours plus a similar amount of time returning the Land Rover to our Base and decontaminating it and the equipment in line with our COVID-19 procedures.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
