Saturday 19th September 2020. The North East Ambulance Service contacted us at 10.17pm to assist in searching for a young female who was reported to have been taken ill in the Thornaby-on-Tees area. Information was that she may have been somewhere in the Stainsby Wood / Stainsby Beck area but telephone contact had been lost.
A number of our volunteer Team members were called out and made their way to an RV-point where they liaised with ambulance crews in the area. Cleveland Police officers were also informed. We were divided into search parties and allocated a number of areas to search. Two hours after the call to us, Police officers traced the female who was safe and well. After a debrief our Team members were stood-down and returned home.
Eighteen Team members were involved (and one co-ordinating the response remotely) for approximately 2.25 hours, plus further time for some people in decontaminating the Team Land Rover back at Base until approximately 1.20am.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
