Tuesday 11th August 2020. We were contacted by North Yorkshire Police to assist in a search for a man who was missing, possibly in the Carlton Bank area. Team members were called out to an RV-point at Lordstones Country Park where we liaised with the Police and agreed on a number of areas to be searched across a wide section of the moors. Over a period of hours a number of MR search parties and police officers searched the allocated areas.
Just after 10.30pm we received a report that the man had been found, so Team members attended to assess his medical condition. We are pleased to report that he was found safe and was receiving appropriate care. At that point we were able to return to the RV-point and then stand-down for the night.
Many thanks to Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team for assisting by sending search dogs Ollie & Cassie with their handlers and Teesdale and Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team with search dog Tarn & handler. 23 Cleveland Team members attended (plus one co-ordinating our response remotely) in addition to the three search dogs & handlers from the other Teams. The incident lasted approximately 6-hours plus a further couple of hours to pack up, return vehicles to our Base and decontaminate them (re COVID-19 precautions).
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
