Friday 5th June 2020. We were contacted by North Yorkshire Police just after 11pm to search for a man who was missing and possibly in the Kettleness area, north of Whitby. A number of our volunteer Team members were called out and a Team Land Rover was deployed. We then searched areas, tracks and tunnels around the Kettleness area, including stretches of the Cleveland Way. The strong winds and heavy rain made going difficult at times.
Police officers, the Coastguard and a helicopter from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency were involved in the search. After covering the areas requested by the Police we were stood-down shortly after 3.30am this morning. Police enquiries to trace the man are continuing. 17 Team members were involved in the incident which lasted just over 4.5 hours.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
