Sunday 9th February 2020 1200 hours. We were called by Yorkshire Silver Command to assist the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association deal with a potential flooding incident in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. The Team deployed 6 Swiftwater Rescue Technicians and 2 Water First Responders together with our specialist Water Trailer.
Team members arrived in Pateley Bridge just as the water levels were peaking – thankfully the flood defences were holding and protecting the majority of buildings. The Team were asked to stay and support the Upper Wharfedale Team, the Environment Agency and local residents until stood down at 4.30pm when it was clear that river levels were dropping. The eight volunteer Team members then returned to our Base where the vehicles and equipment were made ready for any further deployments.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
