Whilst the team were on one of their regular weekend exercises they were asked by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to assist with a crashed mountain biker in forestry on Osgoodby Bank near Kilburn on the southern edge of our area.
The 39 year old biker had fallen in a remote area of the woodland and the helicopter crew needed help carrying him the 300 metres to their aircraft. Twelve members of the team were deployed to the incident and assisted personnel from the air ambulance and from Yorkshire Ambulance Service in transporting the injured man to the waiting ambulance for his joinery to hospital.
The incident lasted about two hours.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
