Saturday 19th May, 1500hrs.
We were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help with a mountain biker who had collapsed whilst taking part in a mountain biking event-the Boltby Bash.
The incident was to the extreme south of our area so, as our callout officer was getting more details, we deployed one of our landrover ambulances and put the team on standby.
As we approached the incident location we were contacted by ambulance control to say that the cyclist had been evacuated by the Yorkshire air ambulance and we could stand down.
Six team members were involved for and hour with more on standby.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

If you’ve been braving the elements these last few days then you will be ideally placed to enter next year’s Cleveland Survival. Entries are now open for the event which takes place on 29th March 2025.
It could be dry or wet, warm or cold - or all of them on the same day. Who knows? One thing to be certain of, is that it will be a rewarding experience and great fun. If you’ve done the Survival before then it’s time to enter again. If you’re a ‘newbie’ then please consider giving it a go - you won’t be disappointed!

The Survival is open to runners and walkers based on an orienteering course, with a route of around 20 miles, to be completed within the time limit.
