Ambulance assist near Middleton on Leven

Thursday 10 Sept (1150hrs)

The busy start to September continued with the team’s 6th call out in 10 days. Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) contacted the team to attend to a walker with a lower limb injury between Foxton Bridge and Middleton-on-Leven. One Land Rover was deployed with other team members to Foxton Bridge. The first party of 4 members proceeded to the casualty site to make the initial  assessment. When the Land Rover arrived along with other team members the requested medical kit and stretcher/wheel were transferred to the site. The team medics provided the required treatment before the casualty was loaded onto the stretcher.and transferred approximately 500m to the road. The YAS crew met the casualty at the bridge.

We hope the casualty makes a full and speedy recovery

16 team members were involved for approximately 2.5 hours

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

CALL OUT 45/2026 Wednesday 09 Sept (1055hrs) North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) requested assistance from the team to extricate a casualty who was suffering from a medical condition in Newton Woods below Roseberry Topping.The team deployed one Land Rover with other members heading to the RV at Newton under Roseberry car park.The first three team members were transported to the top of Roseberry Lane and then walked to the cas site to meet the NEAS medics. Other team members headed to the top of Roseberry Lane awaiting information on what kit would be required. Following the results of the assessment by the NEAS crew it was decided the casualty could walk to the Land Rover at the top of the lane. The person was transferred in the Land Rover to the ambulance in the car park. We hope the casualty makes a full recovery. 13 team members were involved for approximately 1.5 hours
CALL OUT 43/2026 Wednesday 02 Sept (1235hrs) The team received their 3rd call out in a 24 hour period from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), to provide assistance to a person who had collapsed on Roseberry Topping.The team members involved in the call out at Highcliffe all transferred to the RV at Aireyholme Farm along with the second Land Rover. Also on scene were Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), who were the first to arrive at the casualty. One Land Rover proceeded up to the col from the farm collecting 2 paramedics en route. Team members were dispatched onto the hill with the required equipment including technical rope kit. Following the assessment by the GNAAS crew and time, the casualty with support, was able to walk down to one of the Land Rovers. The Rover transported the person and ambulance crew down to the ambulance at Aireyholme Farm. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery. Thanks to the Phelp family for use of Aireyholme Farm, yet again. 11 team members were involved for approximately 2 hours
CALL OUT 42/2026 Wednesday 02 Sept (1145hrs) The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to provide assistance with the extrication of a casualty who had fallen in the Highcliff Nab area above Hutton village. One team Land Rover was mobilised along with other team members heading to the RV. at the village. The medics on scene assessed the casualty and deemed they were capable of being transferred sitting in a vehicle to the waiting ambulance in Hutton Village. As the casualty was handed over into the ambulance, the team were tasked with another call out at Roseberry Topping. 11 team members were involved for approximately 1 hour
