Ambulance Assist near Great Ayton

Thursday 27 Aug (1535hrs)

The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to provide assistance with extrication of a mountain biker  who had an upper body injury in Cliff Ridge Wood close to Great Ayton.. All  available team members headed to the team base from where they would be  shuttled to the casualty site. Also on scene was the air ambulance crew, who treated the casualty. The first fully crewed Land Rover headed to casualty site to meet up with the air crew. On scene , the casualty was walked with support to the waiting Land Rover . The other fully crewed Land Rover and personnel at the base were placed on standby. Once the casualty was in the Land Rover they were driven the short distance to the waiting ambulance at the track end.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery 

24 team members were involved for approximately 1.5 hours

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

CALL OUT 39/2026 Monday 24th Aug (1925hrs) The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to provide assistance with extrication of a mountain biker who had fallen from height and had facial injuries.Both crewed Land Rovers were sent to Errington Woods with other team members heading to the RV in their own vehicles. The first two personnel to arrive headed to the casualty site on foot. On arrival at the RV, one Land Rover proceeded into the woods to get as close to the casualty site with other team members walking to the site. Once the casualty had been treated by NEAS , they were immobilised in the vacuum mattress then loaded onto the stretcher in the casualty bag. The stretcher was wheeled a short distance to the stripped out Land Rover. The stretcher was loaded into the Land Rover and driven down to the waiting ambulance in the car park. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery. 16 team members were involved for just short of 3 hours
CALL OUT 37/2026 TUESDAY 18th AUGUST (1230hrs) The team were requested to provide assistance to North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to deal with a juvenile who had fallen from a tree and landed a few metres down an embankment at the top of Newton Woods, Roseberry Topping. The team deployed both Land Rovers ,with one coming in via Aireyholme Farm and the other shuttling personnel to the top of Roseberry Lane from the base. The person was medically assessed by NEAS and Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) personnel who were both on scene. The person had upper body injuries. To extract the person back up onto the path, a rope system was set up to allow the person to walk up on a casualty harness with assistance from a team member on a sit harness. But due to the anxious state of the patient, plan B , use of the mountain rescue stretcher with a back up rope was executed. Once on the path , the person was carried in the stretcher , approximately 400m, down to the waiting ambulance at the top of Roseberry Lane for forward transfer to hospital. We wish the person a speedy recovery and best wishes Thanks once again to Mark and family for access via Aireyholme Farm and for the tea and biscuits provided to the person acting as control at the farm. 16 team members were involved for approximately 3 hours

CALL OUT 35/2026 Wednesday 12 Aug 2026 (1640 hrs) North Yorkshire Police (NYP) contacted the team regarding an elderly person who was lost in the woods of Mulgrave Estate in the Sandsend Rigg area. .One Land Rover returning from Danby Show headed to Sandsend with the other Land Rover fully crewed from the base and other team members travelling in their own vehicles, The person was located in the woods by one of the Land Rovers. A team medic performed a thorough assessment of the individual and concluded the person did not require any further medical intervention. The person was accompanied back to their accommodation. 21 team members were involved for approximately 2.75 hours.
BRITISH MOUNTAINEERING LEGENDS On the evening of 21st October, at the Forum Northallerton . both Paul "Tut" Braithwaite and Alan Hinkes will join Chris Brown to share stories from some of their greatest climbs with photographs and personal memories, followed by a Q&A. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the mental health charity.
