Ambulance Assist Errington Woods

Monday 24th Aug (1925hrs)

The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to provide assistance with extrication of a mountain biker who had fallen from height and had facial injuries.Both crewed Land Rovers were sent to Errington Woods with other team members heading to the RV in their own vehicles. The first two personnel to arrive headed to the casualty site on foot. On arrival at the RV, one Land Rover proceeded into the woods to get as close to the casualty site with other team members walking to the site. Once the casualty had been treated by NEAS , they were immobilised in the vacuum mattress then loaded onto the stretcher in the casualty bag. The stretcher was wheeled a short distance to the stripped out Land Rover. The stretcher was loaded into he Land Rover and driven down to the waiting ambulance in the car park.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

CALL OUT 43/2026 Wednesday 02 Sept (1235hrs) The team received their 3rd call out in a 24 hour period from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), to provide assistance to a person who had collapsed on Roseberry Topping.The team members involved in the call out at Highcliffe all transferred to the RV at Aireyholme Farm along with the second Land Rover. Also on scene were Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), who were the first to arrive at the casualty. One Land Rover proceeded up to the col from the farm collecting 2 paramedics en route. Team members were dispatched onto the hill with the required equipment including technical rope kit. Following the assessment by the GNAAS crew and time, the casualty with support, was able to walk down to one of the Land Rovers. The Rover transported the person and ambulance crew down to the ambulance at Aireyholme Farm. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery. Thanks to the Phelp family for use of Aireyholme Farm, yet again. 11 team members were involved for approximately 2 hours
CALL OUT 42/2026 Wednesday 02 Sept (1145hrs) The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to provide assistance with the extrication of a casualty who had fallen in the Highcliff Nab area above Hutton village. One team Land Rover was mobilised along with other team members heading to the RV. at the village. The medics on scene assessed the casualty and deemed they were capable of being transferred sitting in a vehicle to the waiting ambulance in Hutton Village. As the casualty was handed over into the ambulance, the team were tasked with another call out at Roseberry Topping. 11 team members were involved for approximately 1 hour
CALL OUT 40/2026 Thursday 27 Aug (1535hrs) The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to provide assistance with extrication of a mountain biker who had an upper body injury in Cliff Ridge Wood close to Great Ayton.. All available team members headed to the team base from where they would be shuttled to the casualty site. Also on scene was the Yorkshire air ambulance crew, who treated the casualty. The first fully crewed Land Rover headed to casualty site to meet up with the air crew. On scene , the casualty was walked with support to the waiting Land Rover . The other fully crewed Land Rover and personnel at the base were placed on standby. Once the casualty was in the Land Rover, they were driven the short distance to the waiting ambulance from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) at the track end. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery 24 team members were involved for approximately 1.5 hours
