Ambulance assist at Great Ayton

Sunday 28th June (1205hrs)

A team member was en route to the base when he noticed ambulance activity at the end of Thieves Lane on outskirts of Great Ayton. Following a discussion with one of the ambulance crew it was clarified that the team would be required to assist with the extraction of the injured individual from Cliff Rigg quarry to the ambulance at the end of the lane. The person had come off their mountain bike.

The call out officer was informed of the situation contacted Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) control room and then alerted the whole team. Fortunately a number of the team members were at the base for the recruitment day., enabling a rapid deployment to the casualty site. At the site, the person was treated by the ambulance crew and then placed in the team’s vacuum mattress on the mountain rescue stretcher. The stretcher was carried the 600m to the ambulance.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery

19 team members were involved for approximately 1.25 hours
