Ambulance assist at Cowpen Bewley Country Park

Monday 22nd June (1120 hrs)

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) contacted the team to provide assistance with the extraction of a person who had collapsed in Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park, near Billingham.An off duty doctor was at the scene to provide initial support to the casualty. Both Land Rovers and other members in their own vehicles headed to the country park. The first two members to arrive proceeded on foot to the casualty site to assess the most appropriate route for the extraction. When the first Land Rover arrived at RV, various items of kit were transferred on foot to the casualty site. At the site, the casualty was treated by the ambulance crew and once stable was packaged on the mountain rescue stretcher to be wheeled to the waiting second Land Rover in the park, approximately 500m. The casualty was transferred into the Rover for the drive to the waiting ambulance.in the car park.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery 

15 team members were involved for approximately 2.5 hours

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
