FRIDAY 27th Feb (1710hrs)
North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) contacted the team requesting assistance with a mountain biker who had sustained injuries in Errington Woods at New Marske.
Paramedics were on scene but required our assistance to evacuate the casualty to the waiting ambulance. The person was evacuated from the casualty site on the Bell Stretcher which had been fitted with the wheel. The wheel is routinely employed for reasonable terrain e.g. tracks, to ensure a smooth ride for the casualty and reduces personnel to 6 from 8 on the carry. The wheel also reduces the physical stresses of negotiating obstacles, although fences, narrow gates and fallen trees etc. require the wheel to be removed. This evening was a straight-forward wheel all the way to the ambulance. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
16 team members were involved for approximately 2 hours
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
