WEDNESDAY 11th Feb (2100hrs)
As the team were approaching the end of the search and rescue training scenario at a very misty Silton Forest, a request was received to assist North Yorkshire Police in searching for a missing person in an area north of Thirsk. The training session was abandoned with all personnel and equipment returning in the Land Rovers to Square Corner.
The Incident Control vehicle , both Land Rovers and others in their own vehicles headed to the meeting point location. The team searched defined areas in Thornton Park with the assistance of two search dogs from Swaledale MRT. About 1 hour into the search , the missing person was located outside the search areas and was safe and well.
Thanks to Ian and Tim from Swaledale MRT for their assistance with their search dogs.
20 team members were involved for approximately 4 hours.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
