Saturday 10th Jan (0630hrs)
The team were contacted by North Yorkshire Police (NYP) to help to determine the location of a vehicle in a reported RTC in Bilsdale. Due to the wintry conditions we were requested to provide 4×4 vehicle assistance.
A limited deployment was undertaken with both Land Rovers triple crewed.
The team searched the length of Bilsdale to the top of Newgate Bank, no vehicle was located. There was possible evidence in one area of where a vehicle could have been off the road.
With no vehicle found, NYP were informed and vehicles returned to base.
7 members were involved for approximately 3 hours with a number on standby in case they were required.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

FIRST OUTDOOR SESSION OF 2026
On Wednesday, there was a good turnout of team members for the first outdoor session of 2026, on a cold and windy evening.Thankfully no rain.
The session in the vicinity of Captain Cook’s Monument, consisted of a number of technical/rope workshops One group evaluated raising and lowering a stretcher on steep ground with a back up rope attached by carrying ,sledging and hand over hand.Another group lowered a person over the edge in the quarry area with the final group used a lowering rope to transfer personnel on a steep slope. In all workshops , the technical team members were using the new Maestro units for the lowering or hauling.
