SUNDAY 29th SEPT (1645hrs)
As the weekend practice at Newgate Bank was concluding , the team received a call to assist Helimed in Hutton le Hole area. The location of the incident was in neighbouring Scarborough & Ryedale’s area but due to our proximity and having both Land Rovers ready to go, we deployed both vehicles crewed with personnel to assist Scarborough. Other members , in their own vehicles also deployed to the location. At the incident area, personnel walked from the road at Laskey Bridge to the casualty site to assist with the carry to the waiting Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
On returning to the base, both Land Rovers had to be cleaned. A long day for those in the Rovers.
A total of 13 members were involved for approximately 3 hours
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

Over the past week the team has been involved in water awareness and in water training. The mid week session was a presentation based on water hazards and the team processes around water.along with a practical session on the use of throw lines. Then on Sunday, a number of the water team travelled to Ovingham on River Tyne. The session included a number of team members who are interested in joining the water team.The taster session involved aggressive and defensive swimming in various water speeds, along with in water rescues using throw lines and tethered swimming. Following Strom Amy, the water level was significantly higher than it was 4 weeks ago
Next week is Flood Action Week (FAW) from 13-17 October.
