Back in June, Andy Pearson, an operational member, took part in the Montane Spine MRT Challenger South Event from Edale in Peak District to Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales on the Pennine Way. A distance of 108 mile. Andy finished third in the MRT category. He summed up his experience as ‘pretty awesome”.
He particularly enjoyed running through the night, seeing the trails of head torches and the lights of villages and towns in the distance.
It wasn’t all fun, #SpineRace events never are, and he described the final 4 miles as ‘a world of pain”.
Andy was fundraising for the team . At a very low point, he checked his phone to find that somebody had made a £200 donation to his cause and it spurred him on through the discomfort.
His effort raised just short of £1K, Thanks to all who contributed, both Andy and the team appreciate it.
What next for Andy? He plans to do the North event from Hawes to Kirk Yetholm next summer followed by the south event again, but in winter.
The picture shows team Leader, Tim Wood congratulating and presenting Andy with his trophy for 3rd place.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
