TUESDAY 29th JULY (1115hrs)
The team were requested by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assist with an elderly person who had collapsed and had a head wound close to the summit of Roseberry Topping. The team deployed both crewed Land Rovers to Aireyholme Farm along with other members in their own transport. Both Rovers proceeded from the farm up the lane to the Col, from where the personnel proceeded to the casualty site on foot with the rescue stretcher, wheel and casualty bag. Paramedics were with the casualty , thus no medical equipment had to be deployed.
At the casualty site, once the person had been treated by the paramedics, they were loaded in the casualty bag on the stretcher . The wheel was attached to the stretcher for the transfer of approx 750m down the hill and then contouring round to the Col. The casualty was transferred to a Rover and driven down to the ambulance at the farm.
We wish the person a speedy recovery.
A few thanks to those who supported the team today. Mary from the support team who was in the area and helped out. Cleveland Army Cadet force who were on a sponsored walk , who came across the casualty and remained with the person until we carried him off the hill.
Our appreciation to Mark and Kath at Aireyholme Farm for the use of the farm yard and access to Roseberry via their land, once again.
12 team members were involved for approx 2.5 hours
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
