FRIDAY 4th JULY (1250hrs)
The team were contacted by North Yorkshire Police to provide assistance to a mountain biker near the top of Turkey Nab at Bank Foot. Both Land Rovers and team members in their own vehicles headed to Bank Foot. Both Rovers and other 4×4 vehicles transferred personnel close to the casualty site, on Battersby Moor.
At the site, the person was treated for a lower leg injury by a team medic. While the person was being treated the Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed close by. Following assessment of the casualty by the air ambulance medics, it decided that the team would continue with the proposed extraction to Bank Foot, allowing the air ambulance to attend a more serious incident further south.
The team transferred the casualty a short distance to a Rover on the rescue stretcher. With the leg suitably splinted, the person was able to sit in the Rover to be transported down the hill.
A few minutes after arriving at Bank Foot, the casualties partner arrived to transport the person to hospital and to collect his belongings and bike. His cycling companion was now able to continue with the planned cycle route.
We wish the person a speedy recovery and hopefully it is not too long before he is back on the mountain bike (assuming his partner allows him!!)
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
