SUNDAY 22nd JUNE (1330hrs)
The team were contacted by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assist an ambulance crew treating a person suffering a medical condition close to summit of Roseberry Topping. As the team were being deployed to Aireyholme farm, we were informed that Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) would also be supporting.
One Rover attending the Cleveland Hike was deployed from Danby with the other from the base. On arrival at Aireyholme, both Rovers proceeded past the farm up the track towards Roseberry. At the col on Cleveland Way, personnel and kit was deployed to the casualty site, towards the summit.
At the site, the medical personnel stabilised the person. The team then packaged him in the casualty bag on the rescue stretcher then sledged it about 250m to the air ambulance. The air ambulance transferred the casualty to hospital.
We wish the person a speedy recovery.
Once again, thanks to Mark and Kath at Aireyholme Farm for use of the farm yard and access to Roseberry via their land.
18 team members were involved for about 1.5 hours
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
