SUNDAY 27th April (18:55)
The Team was contacted by both North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Cleveland Police to provide assistance to a person who had fallen approximately 30m from the crags at the top of Roseberry Topping into the “boulder field”
The two Land Rovers and other team members headed to Aireyholme Farm from where they were dispatched to the casualty site. The first Rover to the area , formed the “hasty”party. They proceeded quickly to the casualty site with some medical equipment to evaluate the situation On arrival, medics from NEAS and Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) road response vehicle were on scene.
The two team doctors present ,assisted the GNAAS doctor in stabilising the person. Once stabilised, he was placed into the vacuum mattress, in a casualty bag, on the rescue stretcher. While he was being stabilised, the air ambulance arrived and landed close to the shooting box.
The walk with the stretcher to the air ambulance, approx 250m, required going through the “boulder field” to access one of the major paths, a challenging walk..The stretcher movement involved hand over hand transfer, sledging and carrying. On the path, it was a standard carry to the air ambulance.
When loaded into the helicopter, the casualty was flown to James Cook Hospital.
We wish the casualty a speedy and full recovery.
Again, thanks to Aireyholme Farm for allowing the team to use the farm yard for vehicle parking and for access to Roseberry Topping via the fields.
21 team members were involved for approx 3 hours
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
