NESRA VEHICLE IN WATER TRAINING

Five members of Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team travelled to Pinkston Watersports in Glasgow at the weekend to participate in the NESRA (North East Search and Rescue Association) run Vehicle in Water training and qualification. Members worked through a series of workshops and scenarios, in a variety of water depths and speeds, to highlight the hazards associated when working with vehicles when they are stuck in water. Our members, along with members from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, practiced numerous skills and techniques, using a variety of equipment, to move in water, stabilize vehicles and then extract injured and non-injured occupants to a safe place. The knowledge and skills learnt will be a real asset that enhances our water capability. We just hope we don’t have to use the skills too often in a real situation. A massive thank you goes to Pinkston Watersports for hosting the course and to NESRA and their instructor for the invaluable input throughout the two days.
