SATURDAY 10TH APRIL 2021
Another call-out this afternoon - the second of the day and our fourth in less than 24-hours!
We were contacted shortly before 1600 hours by the North Yorkshire Police with a report that a male walker had sustained a serious leg injury after falling on the Cleveland Way National Trail, roughly midway between Lordstones and Wain Stones. An off-duty doctor was helping the man and a Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) crew were en route.
Team members were again called out; this time the RV-point was at Beak Hills Farm, roughly 2-miles east of Lordstones Cafe (many thanks to everyone at Beak Hills Farm for their continuing support with access to the area).
A Team Land Rover was deployed from the RV-point via farmland to get as close as possible to the scene, together with some Team members using their own 4x4 vehicles. Having got as far as they could drive they then walked along the Cleveland Way up to the scene carrying our rescue equipment.
On arrival, together with a YAS paramedic, they stabilised the injury and provided pain relief for the injured man. He was then ‘packaged’ in a vacuum mattress and casualty bag, placed on one of our stretchers and carried by Team members a few hundred metres downhill on difficult terrain until we reached our Land Rover ambulance. He was then transported back along farm tracks and transferred to the waiting YAS ambulance for onward transport to hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.
Twenty Team members (plus a call-out officer) were involved for approximately 2.25 hours (plus return travel and vehicle / equipment decontamination time). ... See MoreSee Less
