Ambulance assistance – Clay Bank

SATURDAY 26TH JUNE 2021 (1632 HOURS)

At the end of a day’s Team training we received a call from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist them with a 25-year-old man who had sustained a wound to his right leg whilst in woodland near Clay Bank, south of Great Broughton. He was reported as being on a steep grassy slope some 200-metres into the woodlands.

Two Team Land Rovers were deployed whilst Team members were called out to an RV-point at Clay Bank car park. From there they made their way to the casualty approximately 600-metres away. We assisted the paramedics with treatment and pain relief and when ready the casualty was packaged in one of our casualty bags and lifted onto a mountain rescue stretcher. Owing to the hilly terrain and slippery conditions a ‘back-up’ rope system was attached to the stretcher and it was then ’sledged’ down to the roadside and a waiting ambulance which took the man to hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.

Twenty-five Team members (plus our Call-out Officer) were involved in the call-out which lasted for approximately 1.5 hours plus return travel time.
