Rescue at Roseberry Topping

MONDAY 3RD MAY 2021

Our first call-out of the month came from the North East Ambulance Service at 1104 hours on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May 2021. They requested our assistance to attend to a report of a woman who had sustained a leg injury after falling on the steps below Roseberry Topping in Newton Wood.

Team members were contacted and directed to report to our nearby Base so that we could transport them to the scene in a ‘shuttle service’ using two Team Land Rovers, as parking and access for members vehicles in and around the car park was as usual very limited. Two other Team members who were walking and running in the area at the time made their way to the scene directly.

Upon arrival we treated the casualty for a suspected broken leg and provided her with pain relief. She was then lifted her onto one of our specialist stretchers, wrapped in a vacuum mattress and carried a couple of hundred metres to the NEAS ambulance for transport to hospital. We wish her well in her recovery.

Seventeen Team members attended with one other person co-ordinating our response remotely (a total of 26 had made themselves available if required). The incident lasted approximately 1.25 hours plus return travel time to our Base and then decontamination of the equipment and vehicles.
