Injured Walker – Hutton Low Woods

SATURDAY 10TH APRIL 2021

After a surprisingly quiet period for the Team since the lockdown was eased at the end of March, this Saturday morning saw the third call-out of the weekend so far – in fact, our third within the space of approximately 14-hours!

We were contacted shortly before 1000 hours by the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) with a request to attend to an injured walker in Hutton Low Woods just south of Guisborough. The first Team members to arrive went directly to an RV-point in the woods and then onto the male casualty. Other Team members were deployed to a point near Hutton village to liaise with the Ambulance crew and to prepare to transfer the casualty from one of our Land Rover Ambulances to the NEAS ambulance once he had been treated at the scene.

In the woods it was found that the man had sustained a lower leg injury and so he was treated by Team members, including by administering pain relief. He was then ‘packaged’ in a casualty bag, placed on one of our stretchers and transported down to the waiting NEAS ambulance for onward transport to hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.

Twenty-two Team members (plus a call-out officer) were involved for approximately 1.75 hours (plus travel and vehicle / equipment decontamination time).
