Potto and Hutton Rudby Rescue

Sunday 28th June 2020. We were called by North Yorkshire Police at 3.50pm to assist with the rescue of a man who had fallen from a foot-bridge between Potto and Hutton Rudby. The Yorkshire Ambulance Service and a Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service helicopter were in attendance.

Team members, including our two Team doctors, attended the RV-point on a nearby farm and walked 600 metres to the scene carrying their equipment. The man was already being treated by the Air Ambulance crew for possible leg injuries. However, he did not require evacuation by helicopter. He was placed in a vacuum mattress to immobilise him and then carried about 800 metres on one of our specialist mountain rescue stretchers to a waiting ambulance for onward transport to hospital. The stretcher-carry was harder work than normal as the stretcher party members were all required to wear PPE in line with our COVID-19 protocols. Thankfully the weather conditions were cooler than it has been recently.

24 Team members attended the call-out which lasted about 1-hour 20-minutes (with two others co-ordinating the response remotely).
