Callout 26 Rescue Errington Woods

Friday June 7th 16:40 hrs
We were asked by the North Eastern Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assist with an incident in Errington Woods near New Marske. A 75 year old Guisborough man had been found in a collapsed state by a young man who was walking his dog. He alerted the ambulance service who in turn requested our assisted with the man’s evacuation due to the remote location.
The Team quickly deployed one of its Landrover Ambulances and team personnel to rendezvous with the NEAS ambulance on the outskirts of New Marske. After a short search, assisted by two very helpful young local men on mountain bikes, the ambulance paramedics and casualty were located around a kilometre from the rendezvous and around 100metres up the hillside.

We walked into the incident site taking with us our medical equipment and gear to protect the casualty from the heavy rain that was starting to fall and the cold.
Working with the ambulance paramedics and one of our doctors the casualty was stabilised whilst we organised getting one of our land rovers to the scene the two kilometres across fields and tracks from the Upleatham direction that was then used to evacuate the man to the road where the ambulance was waiting for his transfer to James Cook Hospital.
Eighteen team members were involved in this callout that lasted around two hours.
